Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): Mumbai Metro One, operated by Reliance Group-backed Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd., proudly marks 11 years of seamless service on the Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar corridor. Since its inauguration in 2014, the line has emerged as a benchmark in urban mobility, having carried more than 111 crore (1.1 billion) commuters, with an exceptional 99.99% punctuality rate.
With over 12.6 lakh train trips covering a distance of 1.45 crore kilometers, Mumbai Metro One stands as a shining example of efficiency, sustainability, and commuter-centric innovation. The corridor’s busiest stations — Ghatkopar (30 crore riders), Andheri (23 crore), and Saki Naka (11 crore) — reflect the metro’s vital role in the city's transport ecosystem.
The metro currently sees an average weekday ridership of 5 lakh, with a record peak of 5.47 lakh. In response to growing commuter demand, short-loop services between Ghatkopar and Andheri have been introduced, easing congestion during rush hours and enhancing service frequency in high-traffic zones.
Mumbai Metro One has become a vital part of the city's larger metro network, offering key interchanges at DN Nagar (Metro Line 2A), Western Express Highway (Metro Line 7), and Marol Naka (upcoming Metro Line 3). This strategic connectivity is significantly reducing travel times and enabling smoother daily commutes for Mumbaikars.
The metro has received over 40 national and international awards, including Urban Mobility India Award by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Urban Infra Awards for “Transportation Innovation” and “Green Commuting” etc.
Sustainability lies at the heart of Metro One's operations. Each year, it offsets more than 67,000 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to planting over 3 million trees. Innovations such as regenerative braking, energy-efficient trains, and solar-powered stations reinforce its commitment to eco-friendly urban transport.
The success of Mumbai Metro One is a result of the hard work, passion, and dedication of 2,000+ employees who operate and maintain the system. The management extends heartfelt gratitude to the commuters who have made this journey possible.
On this landmark occasion, Mrs. Mamta Shah, Managing Director & CEO of Urban Infra Group, shared her appreciation:
"Mumbai Metro One has not only redefined public transportation in the city but has also become a true symbol of sustainable and efficient urban mobility in India. Congratulations to the entire team behind this success and to every Mumbaikar who made it part of their daily life. We at Urban Infra Group salute this remarkable journey and remain committed to supporting innovations that shape the future of mobility."
As Mumbai Metro One enters its 12th year, it reaffirms its vision to deliver smart, sustainable, and connected mobility solutions. More than just a mode of transport, it continues to serve as a catalyst for urban transformation, shaping the future of public transit in India’s financial capital.
