Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Bengaluru’s expanding suburban rail network, NCC Ltd. has been awarded a ₹501.25 crore contract for Package C2-A of the 149.35 km Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) by Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE). The contract was officially announced on December 31, 2024.
Package C2-A is a key segment of Corridor 2, also known as the Mallige Line, which will connect Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara via 12 stations. The 25.57 km stretch of the line will be crucial in enhancing connectivity in the city’s northern and eastern corridors.
NCC will be responsible for constructing 8 stations along this stretch, which includes:
In addition to station construction, the scope of work also includes electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems installation, pre-engineered building (PEB) roofing, architectural finishes, plumbing, façade work, and detailed design & engineering (DDC) for the stations.
K-RIDE had issued tenders for this significant package in June 2024, with the construction deadline set at 24 months (2 years). After the technical bids were opened on September 4, 2024, three firms submitted their proposals: NCC Ltd., RVNL, and J Kumar Infraprojects. Financial bids were subsequently opened on October 30, 2024, where NCC emerged as the lowest bidder, securing the contract.
The final contract value awarded to NCC for the construction of these 8 stations, including all associated works, stands at ₹501,25,26,713 (inclusive of GST).
The Mallige Line, which will be a vital part of Bengaluru’s suburban rail system, will also see the construction of four other stations—Yeswanthpur, Shettyhalli, Mydarahalli, and Chikkabanavara—under Package C2-B. This package is in the final stages of being awarded.
The construction of the viaduct and at-grade embankment for the entire line is already underway, with Larsen & Toubro handling the works under a ₹849.97 crore contract awarded in 2022. Additionally, K-RIDE is evaluating bids for the construction of the Soladevanahalli Depot, a critical facility for the stabling and maintenance of trains, with two bids from KPC Projects and URC Construction recently received.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project is set to significantly reduce congestion and improve connectivity across the city, offering commuters a fast, efficient, and sustainable alternative to road-based transport. As the project progresses, the construction of key stations and infrastructure is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for public transit in the rapidly expanding urban areas.
NCC Ltd.’s successful bid and the ongoing work on other packages reflect the ambitious vision of K-RIDE and the Karnataka government to transform Bengaluru’s transport network. With work on the Mallige Line progressing steadily, the city is on track to witness a substantial improvement in its suburban rail infrastructure in the coming years.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project takes shape and brings greater connectivity to the city.
