Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): NCC Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for Package I of Corridor II under the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP), also known as the Bengaluru Commuter Rail System. The company has quoted ₹10,850 million for the package.
In addition, PJB Engineers Private Limited has been declared L1 for two other packages of Corridor II. The firm quoted ₹2,634.93 million for Package II and ₹1,062.9 million for Package III, securing both contracts subject to final award.
Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE), a joint venture of the Government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Railways, had invited bids for these packages in November 2025 as part of the project’s phased implementation strategy.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project envisages the development of a 148.17 km-long suburban rail network aimed at decongesting Bengaluru and its rapidly expanding peripheral areas. The project is being executed across four corridors. Corridor 1 connects Bengaluru City to Yelahanka, Devanahalli, and the airport link route. Corridor 2 runs from Baiyyappanahalli to Yeshwantpura and Chikkabanavara. Corridor 3 links Kengeri to Bengaluru City and Whitefield, while Corridor 4 connects Heelalige to Yelahanka and Rajanakunte.
Corridor II, for which these packages have been bid out, is a critical east-west link expected to improve connectivity between key residential, commercial, and industrial hubs in the city.
Meanwhile, the overall completion timeline of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project has been revised. Originally targeted for completion by October 2026, the project deadline has now been extended by over three years, with the new target set for March 2030. Multiple interim milestones have been established for individual corridors to ensure phased progress.
The suburban rail network is anticipated to significantly reduce road congestion, cut travel times, and promote sustainable public transport usage across Bengaluru’s metropolitan region.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project is a transformative mobility initiative for one of India’s most congested cities. Timely award and execution of civil packages under Corridor II will be crucial in maintaining project momentum. While timeline extensions reflect ground realities, coordinated execution and stakeholder alignment will be key to delivering long-term urban mobility benefits.”
With key packages under Corridor II progressing toward award, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project continues to move forward in its mission to build an integrated commuter rail backbone for the city.
