Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): RITES Ltd., a Navratna public sector enterprise and one of India's leading transport infrastructure consultancy firms, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MECON Ltd., a Ministry of Steel undertaking, to jointly identify business opportunities and execute consultancy and infrastructure projects across India and international markets.
The strategic partnership brings together the complementary expertise of both public sector organisations, combining RITES' extensive experience in transport infrastructure and engineering consultancy with MECON's strong capabilities in the metal, mining, energy and industrial sectors. The collaboration is expected to strengthen their ability to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary infrastructure solutions for large-scale projects.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, RITES and MECON will jointly explore consultancy assignments and infrastructure opportunities spanning a broad spectrum of sectors.
The partnership will focus on projects related to railways, metro rail systems, highways, expressways, airports, ports, ropeways, bridges, tunnels, urban transport, energy infrastructure, water resources, hydropower, wastewater management and industrial infrastructure.
By combining their respective technical strengths, both organisations aim to provide end-to-end consultancy and engineering services for complex infrastructure projects that require multidisciplinary expertise.
The collaboration will target opportunities not only within India but also in international markets, supporting the Government of India's vision of expanding the global footprint of Indian engineering and consultancy companies.
The partnership comes at a time when India is witnessing unprecedented investment in transportation, logistics and urban infrastructure under flagship initiatives such as PM Gati Shakti, the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), Bharatmala, Sagarmala and rapid metro and railway expansion programmes.
As governments increasingly seek integrated planning and project delivery models, collaborations between specialised public sector consultancies are expected to improve project execution, optimise resources and enhance technical capabilities.
"The collaboration between RITES and MECON reflects the growing importance of integrated engineering and multidisciplinary consultancy in delivering next-generation infrastructure projects. By combining expertise across transport, industrial, energy and urban infrastructure sectors, such partnerships can accelerate project execution, improve technical innovation and strengthen India's position as a global provider of engineering consultancy services. It also supports the country's vision of building world-class infrastructure while expanding the international presence of Indian public sector enterprises," said Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group.
RITES has built a strong international reputation over the past five decades, having successfully delivered consultancy and engineering assignments in more than 55 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, South America and the Middle East.
The company provides a wide range of services covering transport planning, project management, detailed engineering, inspection, quality assurance, rolling stock consultancy, export of railway equipment and turnkey infrastructure solutions.
MECON, meanwhile, has established itself as one of India's leading engineering, consultancy and project management organisations, particularly in the steel, mining, energy and industrial infrastructure sectors. Its expertise complements RITES' transportation-focused capabilities, creating a strong platform for executing integrated infrastructure projects.
The MoU is expected to enhance collaboration on upcoming public and private sector infrastructure projects requiring expertise across multiple engineering disciplines. It also aligns with the government's emphasis on promoting collaboration among public sector enterprises to improve efficiency, competitiveness and project delivery.
With India's infrastructure investment expected to remain robust over the coming years, the RITES–MECON partnership is well positioned to contribute to the development of modern transport networks, industrial corridors, urban mobility systems and sustainable infrastructure both domestically and internationally.
The agreement reinforces the role of India's public sector engineering consultancies in driving infrastructure development while showcasing indigenous technical capabilities on the global stage.
