Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): NCC Ltd. has been declared the lowest bidder for the civil construction of nine stations under Package C4B of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). The project, spanning 149.35 km, aims to enhance connectivity across the city.
Package C4B covers a 46.88 km stretch on Corridor 4, also known as the Kanaka Line, linking Heelalige to Rajanukunte. The scope of work includes the construction of one elevated and eight at-grade stations at Channasandra, Horamavu, Hennur, Thanisandra, R.K. Hegdenagar, Jakkur, Yelahanka, Muddanahalli, and Rajanukunte in the northeastern part of Bengaluru.
The contract entails comprehensive civil and structural work, including entry and exit structures, steel foot overbridges (FOB), pre-engineered building (PEB) roofing, architectural finishes, and electrical and mechanical (E&M) system installations.
Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) invited tenders for this contract in July 2024 with a projected cost of ₹528.05 crore and a two-year completion deadline. Following the opening of technical bids in September, only two contenders emerged: NCC and a joint venture between Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Rithwik Projects Pvt. Ltd.
However, RVNL–Rithwik JV was disqualified due to prior allocation of Package C4A, covering nine stations from Heelalige to Kaggadasapura. As a result, NCC became the frontrunner before the financial bids were even opened.
NCC submitted a bid of ₹649.15 crore—22.93% higher than K-RIDE’s initial estimate. Given that K-RIDE previously accommodated a similar cost variance while awarding Package C4A to NCC–Rithwik JV, negotiations are expected before finalizing the contract.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project continues to make progress, with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) currently constructing the viaduct and at-grade embankments for Line-4’s 18 stations under a Rs. 1040.51 crore contract awarded in December 2023.
Additionally, BSRP’s Line-4 will share a 500-meter common alignment with Bangalore Metro’s 56 km Blue Line (Phase 2B) between Benniganahalli and Channasandra, further integrating the city’s expanding transit network.
With negotiations underway, NCC is poised to take a leading role in advancing Bengaluru’s long-awaited suburban rail project, bringing the city closer to a robust and efficient mass transit system
