Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major step forward for Rajasthan’s urban mobility development, the Public Investment Board (PIB) on Thursday approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase-2 of the Jaipur Metro Rail Project. The approval was granted during a high-level meeting chaired by the Secretary (Expenditure), Ministry of Finance, with senior officials from various central ministries in attendance.
The PIB’s nod is a crucial milestone for the project, paving the way for the next stages of scrutiny and approval before Jaipur Metro’s long-awaited Phase-2 can be formally sanctioned by the Union Cabinet.
Following PIB clearance, the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 proposal will undergo a structured set of approvals:
Preparation of a detailed Cabinet Note
Review and approval by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)
Forwarding to the Ministry of Finance
Submission to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
Final approval by the Union Cabinet
Only after Cabinet approval will the project receive the final go-ahead for execution.
Speaking to media, Vaibhav Galriya, Managing Director, Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC), confirmed that PIB approval represents meaningful progress in what is traditionally a complex and multilayered procedure.
“PIB’s approval means the project currently has the green signal from the finance ministry and the ministry of housing and urban affairs. We remain in constant touch with the Union government and are making all efforts to move the process forward swiftly,” he said.
Jaipur’s Phase-2 corridor is expected to significantly enhance mobility across the city’s expanding suburbs, reduce road congestion, and improve last-mile connectivity.
Offering her perspective on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said:
“The PIB approval for Jaipur Metro Phase-2 is an encouraging step for Rajasthan’s mass rapid transit ecosystem. Once operational, Phase-2 will unlock new urban growth zones and provide sustainable, reliable mobility for Jaipur’s fast-growing population. A project of this scale requires careful coordination between multiple ministries, and this progress demonstrates strong alignment at the central level.”
The focus now shifts to ensuring rapid processing of the Cabinet Note and inter-ministerial approvals. Once Cabinet clearance is granted, detailed tendering, design, and construction activities can commence.
Phase-2 is expected to expand Jaipur Metro’s footprint significantly, offering improved connectivity to residential, commercial, and institutional hubs on the city’s emerging growth axis.
