Patna, India (Metro Rail Today): Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) Limited has secured a ₹79.22 crore consultancy contract from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) for providing project management and construction consultancy services for the implementation of the Patna Metro Rail Project. The consultancy assignment is expected to play a crucial role in accelerating the execution of Bihar's first metro rail system.
The contract has a completion period of 68 months and covers comprehensive consultancy services for the construction and implementation of various components of the Patna Metro project, which is being developed to transform urban mobility in the state capital.
Under the awarded contract, RITES will provide professional consultancy services throughout the construction phase, assisting PMRC in project implementation, engineering coordination, quality assurance, contract management, construction supervision and other technical aspects necessary for the successful execution of the metro project.
The consultancy assignment is expected to ensure that construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved technical standards, timelines and safety requirements, helping the project progress more efficiently.
As one of India's leading transport infrastructure consultancy organisations, RITES has played a significant role in the planning, design and implementation of metro rail projects across the country and overseas. The latest contract further strengthens its growing portfolio in India's expanding urban rail sector.
The consultancy award comes at an important stage in the development of the Patna Metro Rail Project, which has witnessed renewed momentum after facing delays during earlier phases of implementation.
The metro project is currently progressing on its priority corridor, which comprises five stations and is intended to provide the first operational stretch of the network.
Earlier this month, on 4 July 2026, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated two newly completed metro stations, extending the operational stretch up to Malahipakri. The inauguration marked another milestone in the phased development of the metro system and demonstrated the state's commitment to improving public transport infrastructure.
"Professional project management and construction consultancy play a pivotal role in delivering complex metro rail projects on time and to the highest quality standards. Experienced engineering consultants help optimise project execution, manage risks and ensure effective coordination among multiple stakeholders. As metro networks expand across India's emerging cities, strong technical supervision will be instrumental in creating safe, efficient and sustainable urban transport systems," said Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group.
The Patna Metro Rail Project is Bihar's first metro system and is expected to significantly improve public transportation in one of eastern India's fastest-growing urban centres. Once fully operational, the network will provide faster, safer and more reliable connectivity across Patna while reducing road congestion, travel time and vehicular emissions.
The metro project is also expected to stimulate transit-oriented development, improve accessibility to commercial and residential areas and support the city's long-term economic growth.
RITES has established itself as one of India's premier engineering and transport consultancy firms, providing services across railways, metros, highways, ports, airports and urban infrastructure. The company has been associated with several metro rail projects, offering expertise in planning, design, supervision, project management and quality assurance.
The award of the ₹79.22 crore consultancy contract underscores PMRC's focus on strengthening technical oversight during the execution phase to ensure timely completion of the project. As construction activities gather pace, the consultancy support is expected to contribute significantly to the successful delivery of the Patna Metro, bringing the city closer to a modern, sustainable and integrated mass transit system.
