Rithwik Projects wins ₹597 crore civil contract for Mumbai Metro's Kasheli depot

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has opened financial bids for contract package CA-151 for the constrcution of metro carshed at Kasheli for Mumbai Metro's Line 5 on 9th March 2023 in Mumbai.

As per financial bids results shared, Hyderabad-based construction firm Rithwik Projects Pvt. Ltd. emerged as the lowest bidder by beating three other bidders. The financial position of each bidder is as under:-

  • Rithwik Projects Pvt. Ltd: Rs 597.56 crore (L1)
  • NCC Ltd: Rs 608.98 crore (L2)
  • Vishwa Samudra Engineering Pvt. Ltd: Rs 612.74 crore (L3)

However, the forth bidder Montecarlo – YFC Projects JV did not qualify the technical round of evaluation according to the terms, conditions and eligibility criteria of the contract. Hence, their financial bids not opened.

The scope of work under contract package CA-151 includes design and construction of Depot Infrastructures comprising Stabling Yard, Operation Control Centre and Administrative building, Maintenance and workshop buildings, Auxiliary substation, Finishing, Plumbing, Earthworks for land development, Compound wall, Road, Approach Bridge and Undeground Utility Duct Works, Drainage, Rain Water Harvesting, Staff Quarters etc. Complete Including Architectural Finishing works and PEB Works for Car Depot at Kasheli for Metro Line-5 (Orange Line) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

Tender notice for the above work was issued in October 2022 with an estimated cost of work of Rs 472.02 crore and 36 months (3 years) work completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in January 2023.

The lowest bidder Rithwik Projects has quoted Rs 597.56 crore which is 26.59% higher than MMRDA’s estimate of Rs 472.02 crore. MMRDA may go for further negotiation before finalising the contract.

According to MMRDA, the Kasheli metro depot will be built on a 27.13 hectare land parcel in south of Kastheli metro station of Mumbai Metro Line 5 (Thane - Bhiwandi - Kalyan). 

The 29.40 kilometres long Line 5 (Orange Line) will connect Thane to Bhiwandi to Kalyan with 15 elevated stations. This line will provide interconnectivity among the Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavli) and the proposed Metro Line 12 (Kalyan to Taloja), and with the existing Central Railway.
