New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): Indian railways' PSU arm Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Integral Coach Factory (ICF) for acquiring metro coaches for the Kolkata Metro Railway project.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between RVNL and ICF on April 8, 2022, for the manufacture and acquisition of communication-based train control (CBTC) system compliant 74 metro trains (74x4 = 296 numbers coaches) for the Kolkata Metro Railway project, which is currently under execution by RVNL.
Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is in the business of executing all types of railway projects including new lines, doubling, gauge conversion, railway electrification, metro projects, workshops, major bridges, construction of cable-stayed bridges, and institution buildings etc.
Last month, RVNL has signed an MoU with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for collaboration towards indigenizing imported components/equipment in line with 'Make in India' of the Central Government for Rail & Metro sectors.
On March 28, Siemens emerged as the lowest bidder for Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of CBTC based Train Control and Signaling Systems and Telecommunication systems for Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar Corridor (32kms) and Joka–Esplanade Metro Corridor (16kms) of Metro Railway Kolkata.
