Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) has been declared as the lowest bidder for the civil contract package C-06 of the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro). This significant development comes as RVNL was declared the lowest bidder, paving the way for the construction of 10 elevated metro stations.
The scope of the C-06 contract includes constructing 10 elevated stations as part of the 19.4 km Aqua Line’s new extensions. This involves a 6.6 km western extension (Reach 3A) and a 5.5 km eastern extension (Reach 4A).
Reach 3A (Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna) will feature seven stations: Hingna Mount View, Rajiv Nagar, Wanadongri, APMC, Raipur, Hingna Bus Station and Hingna.
Reach 4A (Prajapati Square to Transport Nagar) will comprise three stations: Pardi, Kapsi Khurd and Transport Nagar.
Maha-Metro invited bids for the construction of these 10 stations in January 2024, estimating the project cost at ₹307.34 crore with a construction deadline of 900 days. Technical bids were opened in March 2024, revealing only two bidders: RVNL and YFC Projects – BBG Infrastructure JV. However, YFC – BBG JV was disqualified for not meeting the tender conditions, automatically making RVNL the front-runner.
RVNL submitted a competitive bid of ₹255.01 crore, significantly lower than Maha-Metro’s estimate. This pricing positions RVNL favorably for the contract, which is expected to be awarded in the coming weeks without prolonged financial evaluations.
Upon receiving the contract, RVNL is likely to subcontract portions of the work to a civil construction company, a common practice in similar metro projects. The selected contractor will collaborate closely with Enia Design – Mahendra Raj Consultants JV, the designated Detailed Design Consultants (DDC) for the stations.
This latest contract marks RVNL's fourth major win in Nagpur Metro Phase 2, following its successful bids for:
The contract package C-06 signifies a crucial step in the advancement of Nagpur’s urban transportation infrastructure. With RVNL at the helm of this project, the development of the Aqua Line’s new extensions promises to enhance connectivity within the city, paving the way for a more efficient public transit system that meets the growing needs of Nagpur’s residents. As the project moves forward, stakeholders will be closely watching RVNL's execution and collaboration efforts to ensure the timely completion and delivery of these vital metro stations.
