Six Firms submit bids for Design Consultancy Contracts of Bangalore Metro Phase 3

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has received six bids for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contracts for the highly anticipated 44.65 km Phase 3 expansion of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project under Phase 3. The bids were submitted after BMRCL opened technical proposals for the project on December 24, 2024.

Bangalore Metro Phase 3, which spans western Bengaluru, will feature the construction of two major metro lines. The 32.15 km Orange Line will connect Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase via 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), while the 12.5 km Kadabagere-Hosahalli Line will feature nine stations. A notable aspect of the design will include the construction of a double-decker viaduct, with the upper deck for metro trains and the lower deck for road vehicles.

BMRCL invited bids for the design consultancy of both lines in October 2024, with a contract duration of 1460 days (4 years). A total of 18 bids were submitted across three contract packages, each corresponding to different sections of the two metro lines.

Details of the Contract Packages:

  • DDC-1: Covers the 17.121 km stretch of the Orange Line from JP Nagar 4th Phase Station to BDA Complex Nagarbhavi Station.
  • DDC-2: Covers the 12.848 km section of the Orange Line from Sumanahalli Cross Station to Kempapura Station.
  • DDC-3: Involves the design of the 12.5 km Kadabagere-Hosahalli Line, including the stations and depots at Sumanahalli and Peenya.

The firms that have placed bids for the design consultancy contracts are:

  • AECOM Singapore Pte. Ltd.
  • L&T Infrastructure Engineering Ltd.
  • Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
  • Shirish Patel and Associates Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
  • SMEC International Pty. Ltd.
  • SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India)

These firms will provide detailed design services for all structures along the metro routes, including elevated viaducts, double-decker and single-decker stations, ramps, flyovers, subways, foot overbridges (FOBs), and multi-modal integration systems.

After technical evaluation, which may take several months, BMRCL will open the financial bids of the qualified firms. The lowest bidder will likely be awarded the design consultancy contract for each package. It is expected that the design consultants will be appointed by mid-2025, with the first civil construction tender notices to be issued no earlier than the first quarter of 2026.

In the meantime, geotechnical soil investigation work for both metro lines has been progressing under four separate contracts, awarded to SECON, Manglam Consultancy Services, and Myrtle Project and Consultancy, since September 2024.
