Swastik-led JV signs contract to supply M&P for Chennai Metro's Poonamallee Depot

Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a contract agreement with Swastik-Equilavaggi Joint Venture (JV) for supply of Machinery and Plants (M&Ps) for Poonamallee Depot under Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project on 14th March 2023 in Chennai.

The Contract agreement was signed in presence of Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems & Operations) CMRL by A.R.Rajendran, Chief General Manager/Rolling Stack for CMRL and Shobhit Saxena, Project Head for Swastik-EquipLavaggi for supply of 13 Machinery and Plants at Poonamallee Depot awarded for a Price of Rs 31.80 Crore.

Corridor-4 (Light House to Poonamalle Bypass) of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Phase-Il Project consists of a 26.1 km long elevated and underground metro rail network with a total of 27 stations and a depot at Poonamallee to stable and maintain all types of rolling stock procured for Corridor-4 of the Phase-II Project. CMRL selected Swastik-EquipLavaggi following a competitive bidding process.

The scope of work under this Contract is "Design, Manufacturing, Supply, Installation, Testing, Commissioning of Machinery and Plant at Poonamallee Depot and training of employees on Turnkey Basis. CMRL has awarded Swastik a Notice to Proceed with the works under this Contract, with a start date of March 14, 2023.

All 13 machinery and plants under this contract will be delivered to CMRL by July 2024 at the Poonamallee Depot and tested on-site.

The Automated Train Wash Plant, Wheel Lathe, Train Lifting Pit Jack, Synchronized Train Lifting Mobile Jack, Wheel Profile Measurement System, and Battery Powered Train Shunting Machine are among the machinery and plants.

The above-mentioned machinery and plant will be commissioned at Poonamallee Depot prior to the arrival of trains. These machinery and plant are essential for railroad trails and subsequent train maintenance.

S. Satheesh Prabhu, AGM (RSO) CMRL, Jagadeesh Prasad, DGM CMRL, Swastik-EquipLavaggi Deputy team leader Prasanth Nardekar, Head Rolling Stock of General Consultant Nandakumar and others were present during the occasion.
