India launches first High Speed Bullet Train Manufacturing Complex in Bengaluru
New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a remarkable endeavor to revolutionize high speed transportation in India, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has taken a significant leap forward. With ambitions set on introducing the country's first-ever bullet train by 2027, the NHSRCL has commenced the procurement process for 24 state-of-the-art E5 Series Shinkansen trainsets. Valued at approximately Rs 11,000 crore, this momentous step brings us closer to witnessing the marvels of high-speed rail on the coveted Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor.
To comply with the funding guidelines set forth by the esteemed Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the NHSRCL has restricted the procurement to Japanese entities exclusively. According to insider reports, prominent Japanese companies like Hitachi Rail and Kawasaki Heavy Industries emerge as the frontrunners, being the sole producers of such advanced trainsets.
The key features of the E5 Series Shinkansen trainsets include:
These features combine to offer a high-speed rail experience that is efficient, comfortable, and safe for passengers.
A spokesperson from the NHRSCL has confirmed the issuance of the Invitation for Proposal (IFP) for the acquisition of these cutting-edge trainsets. However, the spokesperson refrained from disclosing the estimated cost of the rolling stock, citing the ongoing IFP process.
Sources with knowledge of the matter indicate that interested companies must submit their bids by the end of October 2023. Each meticulously designed Shinkansen trainset will comprise ten coaches, offering a commodious experience for up to 690 passengers. These trainsets will undergo meticulous modifications to adapt to India's unique environmental factors, such as the scorching heat and omnipresent dust.
As the construction of the bullet train project progresses swiftly, Gujarat emerges as the frontrunner, encompassing a significant 349 kilometers of the total 508-kilometer project. Consequently, the inaugural phase will witness the trainsets plying on this stretch, bringing the exhilaration of high-speed travel to the region.
When questioned about the revised cost of the entire project, an NHSRCL spokesperson stated, "As per the feasibility report, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project is estimated to cost Rs 1.08 lakh crore. However, the final cost will be determined after the completion of all contracts and the land acquisition process."
Despite this, insiders assert that the current projection surpasses Rs 1.6 lakh crore, illustrating the magnitude of this transformative venture. With every milestone achieved, India eagerly awaits the advent of the high-speed era, where distances will shrink, connectivity will flourish, and dreams will find wings in the blink of an eye.
