Tender launched for construction of OCC at Chennai Metro's Madhavaram Depot

Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited bids from the eligible and experienced firms for construction of Operation Control Centre (OCC) at Madhavaram Depot of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2.

The e-tender notice has been issued on 9th March 2023 for Design and Construction of Operation Control Centre (OCC) at Madhavaram Depot including Civil, Architecture, MEP, VAC and all Associated works.

  • Work completion period: 810 days
  • Pre-bid Meeting: 17th March 2023 at 11.00 AM

  • Date of opening of technical & financial bids: 12th April 2023 at 03.00 PM

The main purpose of an Operation Control Centre (OCC) is to handle day-to-day operations and maintenance of the metro rail system on mainline. All emergencies related to metro operations and passengers and public safety will be responded to in real time.

The Madhavaram Depot is being built to accommodate 110 metro trains, each with three coaches. A total of 24 track lines are being built, including 10 for the stabling yard, 7 for the workshop bay and deep clean bay, and 7 for the inspection bay. On these tracks, 110 metro trains can be stopped. In addition, a 1.4-kilometer test track line will be built.

The Depot will be used for metro train maintenance and cleaning. The Madhavaram Depot construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

In December 2021, CMRL had awarded a contract amounting to Rs 284.51 crore to URC Construction fpr construction of metro train depot with administration & workshop buildings at Madhavaram Milk Colony include civil, MEP, roofing, signage, architectural finishes, STP, external drainage, internal roads, boundary wall and all associated works. 

The Madhavaram depot will feed metro trains for 47 km Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Phase-II connecting Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur with 48 stations, out of which 6 are underground, 1 at grade and 41 are elevated.
