Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant stride towards transforming urban transportation, the Kanpur Metro Rail Project has embarked on the rail lowering process within the Chunni ganj-Nayaganj underground section of Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta). The dynamic endeavor commenced at the Bada Chauraha underground station, where an 18-meter rail weighing 1 ton was deftly lowered a remarkable 17.5 meters beneath the station's existing cut-out. This heralds the initiation of a sequence wherein approximately 228 rails will be methodically lowered, ultimately finding placement within the 'upline' and 'downline' tunnel network linking Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj underground stations. This progressive undertaking marks the commencement of the metro track installation within the subterranean labyrinth.

Just days prior, on July 30, a significant feat was achieved as the Flash Butt Weld (FBW) plant at the station was successfully brought down. This pivotal plant plays a pivotal role in track welding. Similar to the elevated metro, the subterranean counterpart will feature a ballastless track, enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

The adoption of ballastless tracks presents a host of advantages, notably its low maintenance requirements due to the absence of traditional ballast stones. Given the metro's extensive operational hours of 15-16 hours a day, efficient systems are paramount to ensure uninterrupted service with optimal ridership. The added benefits include an extended life cycle, enhanced stability, and a superior ride experience.

At present, remarkable progress is observed within the Kanpur Metro Rail Project's inaugural corridor. Rapid construction strides are evident within the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section, and the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, collectively propelling Kanpur's urban mobility evolution.
