Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): Following the recent approval from the Union Cabinet, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has taken the next key step in advancing the Lucknow Metro Phase-1B by floating a tender to appoint a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for the project. This development reflects UPMRC’s swift action toward implementation, just days after the Centre’s approval on 12 August 2025.
The proposed Phase 1B corridor spans 11.165 km from Lucknow Railway Station (Charbagh) to Vasant Kunj, and is set to include five elevated stations and seven underground stations, significantly boosting connectivity across central and northern parts of the city.
UPMRC is seeking a consultant to provide comprehensive design services covering Civil, Architectural, Electrical & Mechanical (E&M), and Traction Works for the entire corridor. This includes:
4.29 km of elevated viaduct, including a ramp, and elevated stations at Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Vasant Kunj.
6.88 km of underground alignment, including a ramp, with stations at Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Chauraha, and Chowk.
One Car Maintenance Depot and stabling lines at Vasant Kunj.
The DDC will play a critical role in preparing design documentation, ensuring technical precision, and supporting construction teams through the 60-month contract duration.
Tender ID: 2025_UPMRC_245547_1
Tender Number: LKDDC-02
Earnest Money Deposit (EMD): ₹41.2 lakh
Pre-bid Meeting: 2 September 2025
Tender Submission Start Date: 13 September 2025
Tender Submission Deadline: 18 September 2025
The estimated cost of Phase-1B stands at ₹5,801 crore, making it one of the most significant infrastructure expansions for the state capital in recent years. This corridor will serve as an extension to the existing North-South Red Line, enabling seamless metro connectivity from Amas to Vasant Kunj via Charbagh, Lucknow’s busiest intermodal transit point.
Once Phase-1B becomes operational, Lucknow will boast a 34 km long functional metro network, further strengthening its status as one of India’s emerging smart mobility cities.
Phase-1B is not just a transport upgrade—it represents a push toward cleaner, faster, and more equitable mobility in a rapidly growing urban region. The inclusion of heritage areas like Chowk and high-footfall zones like Charbagh and Aminabad highlights UPMRC’s commitment to inclusive transit-oriented development.
Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, applauded the move, stating, “The timely rollout of the design consultant tender shows UPMRC’s proactive project management. Phase-1B will be transformative for Lucknow’s old and new city areas alike—blending modern engineering with heritage-sensitive development. This is the kind of metro-led regeneration we need in Indian cities.”
Following the tender process, UPMRC will evaluate bids, award the contract, and move toward detailed design finalization—setting the stage for construction and integration with the existing system.
As Lucknow steps into the next chapter of its metro expansion, Phase-1B is poised to redefine urban mobility with a blend of smart infrastructure, underground innovation, and inclusive planning.
