UPMRC unveils ambitious 88.95 km metro expansion plan in Taj City Agra

Agra, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has proposed a massive expansion of Agra’s metro network, introducing 11 new corridors spanning 88.95 kilometers. This initiative is part of a larger 303-kilometer metro expansion plan for Agra, Kanpur, and Lucknow, aiming to improve urban mobility and reduce congestion.

The city’s metro network will grow to 118.35 kilometers, ensuring seamless multi-modal connectivity. The proposed corridors will prioritize underground sections to prevent future conflicts with flyovers and elevated roads.

Currently, Agra has two metro corridors under construction:

  • Taj East Gate to Sikandra (14 km): Includes 7 underground and 6 elevated stations. The priority section has already served 1.7 million passengers in its first year.

  • Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar (15.4 km): Features 14 elevated stations, crossing the Yamuna via MG Road. Construction is progressing rapidly.

Proposed Metro Corridors

The new metro lines will enhance connectivity across Agra:

  • Kalindi Vihar to Chhalesar – 2.36 km

  • Rambagh to Yamuna Expressway – 7.9 km

  • Sikandra to Runakta – 8.92 km

  • Poiya Ghat to Bichpuri Railway Station – 15.85 km

  • PAC Depot to Gutilla Mod – 6.6 km

  • Gutilla Mod to Power Grid – 4.96 km

  • Sadar Bazaar to Airport – 3.43 km

  • Sadar Bazaar to Rohta – 6.92 km

  • Aratoni to Rohta – 19.5 km

  • Bamrauli to Taj East Gate – 6.31 km

  • Airport to Malpura – 6.2 km

Officials emphasize that the metro expansion will help reduce pollution, ease traffic congestion, and provide a sustainable public transport alternative. The project will also integrate advanced digital solutions for improved passenger convenience.

The proposal has been submitted to the government for evaluation. Once approved, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared, outlining specific routes, station locations, and implementation plans.

With this initiative, Agra is set to become a model for sustainable urban transport, enhancing accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
