20-km stretch of Mumbai Metro Line 2A & 7 opened for public, know all details

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) today launched commercial services of metro train on 20-km stretch of Mumbai Metro's Line 2A & 7. The new line of Mumbai Metro Rail Network opened after 8 years of wait of Mumbaikars.

The maiden run of first metro train on Line 2A & 7 was flagged off by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, State Cabinet Ministers Aaditya Thackeray and Eknath Shinde were also present on the occasion.

The first phase spanning 20km is between Dahanukarwadi of Line 2A and Aarey of Line 7 will have a total of 18 stations. The following stations of both lines have been now made operational for passenger service.

Metro Line 2A (8 Stations): Dahisar East, Upper Dahisar, Kandarpada, Mandapeshwar, Eksar, Borivali (West), Pahadi Eksar, Kandivali (West) and Dahanukarwadi.

Metro Line 7 (8 Stations): Aarey, Pathan Wadi, Pushpa Park, Bandongri, Mahindra & Mahindra, Magathane, Devipada, National Park, Ovaripada and Dahisar (East). 

Trains on the new Mumbai Metro lines between Aarey and Dhanukarwadi will run with a frequency of 10-11 minutes and have the capacity to carry over 3 lakh passengers every day. There will be nine rakes operating over 150 trips every day on the lines between 6 am and 10 pm.

Metro Fare

  • Rs 10/- for 0-3 km
  • Rs 20/- for 3-12 km
  • Rs 30/- for 12-18 km
  • Rs 40/- for 18-24 km
  • Rs 50/- for 24-30 km

BEML-made Metro Train Trial run on 20-km stretch of Metro 2A (Dahisar West-DN Nagar - Andheri West) and 7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East interconnecting with Line 1) were flagged off by Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on May 31, 2021. Meanwhile, BEML has supplied all the 10 Metro rakes to MMRDA for starting operation on the lines.

The under-construction 35-km stretch of two elevated metro corridors - Line 2A between Dahisar and D N Nagar and Line 7 between Dahisar East and Andheri East - will run parallel on east and west side of suburb and are expected to decongest Western Express Highway, the major arterial road of Mumbai.
