Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Nagpur’s urban transit infrastructure, five leading civil engineering firms have submitted bids to construct Package C-11 of the 43.8 km Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project. This bidding process follows the opening of technical bids by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) on Wednesday.
The scope of Package C-11 involves the construction of three disjointed viaducts for Phase 2’s Reach 2B, Reach 3A, and Reach 4A. Notably, the construction of 16 elevated metro stations along these routes will be handled through separate, dedicated station packages.
Originally, these three sections were planned to be constructed under separate packages (C-07, C-03, and C-04). However, the tendering process for these packages was canceled in February 2024, leading to their amalgamation into a single, more comprehensive contract under Package C-11.
MahaMetro invited bids for the construction of Package C-11 in March 2024, with an estimated project cost of ₹1,010 crore and a construction timeline of 1080 days (3 years).

MahaMetro’s brief scope for Package C-11 includes the design and construction of the elevated metro viaducts for the specified sections in Reach 2B, Reach 3A, and Reach 4A.
The technical bids submitted by these firms are now undergoing evaluation, a process that can take a couple of months to complete. Following the technical evaluation, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened. This will reveal the lowest bidder and the most likely contractor for Package C-11.
In addition to Package C-11, MahaMetro is also evaluating bids for other critical components of the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project. In March 2024, the agency received two bids for Reach 2B’s six metro stations (Package C-08) and two bids for Reach 3A & 4A’s ten metro stations (Package C-06). Technical bid evaluation for these packages is currently underway.
The successful completion of Package C-11 is crucial for the timely and efficient expansion of the Nagpur Metro network. The construction of the viaducts in Reach 2B, Reach 3A, and Reach 4A will facilitate seamless connectivity and enhance the overall capacity of the metro system. This expansion is expected to provide significant benefits to commuters, reducing travel time and easing congestion in the city.
The ongoing tendering and evaluation processes reflect the progress and commitment towards the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project. As the technical evaluations proceed and financial bids are assessed, the anticipation builds for the announcement of the successful contractor. This milestone will mark a significant step forward in the development of Nagpur’s urban transit infrastructure.
The competition among five prominent civil engineering firms for Package C-11 of the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project signifies a major stride in the city’s infrastructural advancement. The integration of three disjointed viaducts into a single package streamlines the construction process and promises to enhance the efficiency of the metro expansion. As MahaMetro moves forward with technical and financial evaluations, the project continues to pave the way for a more connected and efficient Nagpur.
