Asa Bhanu wins ₹40.59 crore Rolling Stock Maintenance Contract for Nagpur Metro Rail Project

Nagpur, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has identified Asa Bhanu Technical Services Limited as the lowest bidder for a five-year Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) covering CRRC-make metro rolling stock deployed on the Nagpur Metro Phase-I network. The estimated value of the contract is around ₹40.59 crore, with the scope also including intermediate overhauling of the metro trains.

Asa Bhanu Technical Services Limited emerged as the L1 bidder with a bid value of approximately ₹40.5 crore. The contract is currently at the potential Award of Contract (AOC) stage.

Five-Year Rolling Stock Maintenance Contract

The proposed contract covers the annual maintenance of CRRC-manufactured metro rolling stock operating on the Nagpur Metro Phase-I network for a period of five years. In addition to routine and preventive maintenance, the package includes intermediate overhauling, making it an important part of the long-term maintenance programme for Maha Metro's metro fleet.

The maintenance arrangement is aimed at supporting the reliability, availability and operational performance of the rolling stock throughout the contract period. The inclusion of intermediate overhauling is particularly significant as it extends the scope beyond regular annual maintenance activities.

Asa Bhanu Emerges as Lowest Bidder

Three companies participated in the financial and technical evaluation process. Asa Bhanu Technical Services Limited submitted the lowest financial bid of ₹40.5 crore and was identified as L1. BEML Limited was the second-lowest bidder with a bid value of ₹82.2 crore, while United Rail Road Consultants Pvt. Ltd. was rejected at the technical evaluation stage.

The substantial difference between the L1 and L2 bids places the Asa Bhanu offer significantly below the second-ranked financial bid, subject to completion of the remaining contractual formalities and award process.

The contract is expected to cover the CRRC fleet operating across the Phase-I network, supporting Maha Metro's continuing requirements for rolling stock maintenance and overhauling.

Nagpur Metro Phase-I Network

Nagpur Metro Phase-I is a 40.02-km operational rapid transit network developed by Maha Metro and comprises two principal corridors—the Orange Line and the Aqua Line.

The Orange Line, forming the North-South Corridor, connects Automotive Square with Khapri and covers approximately 19.658 km with 18 stations. Major stations on the corridor include Kasturchand Park, Zero Mile Freedom Park, Sitabuldi, Ajni Square, Airport and New Airport. Sitabuldi functions as an interchange with the Aqua Line.

The Aqua Line, forming the East-West Corridor, connects Prajapati Nagar with Lokmanya Nagar and covers approximately 18.557 km with 20 stations. The corridor serves important locations including Nagpur Railway Station and Sitabuldi, along with Cotton Market, Jhansi Rani Square, Dharampeth College and Subhash Nagar.

Focus on Long-Term Metro Fleet Reliability

With Nagpur Metro Phase-I operating across two corridors, long-term rolling stock maintenance remains essential for sustaining service reliability and passenger operations. The five-year AMC, combined with intermediate overhauling, is expected to provide a structured maintenance framework for the CRRC-manufactured fleet.

According to the project details provided, the estimated completion cost of Nagpur Metro Phase-I, including taxes, is ₹9,279 crore. The latest maintenance contract represents a continuing investment in the upkeep and lifecycle management of the rolling stock deployed on the operational network.
