Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant boost to India's infrastructure and manufacturing sector, the Government of Madhya Pradesh has approved the allotment of 60.063 hectares (approximately 148 acres) of land to BEML Limited in Umeria, Raisen district. The land will be utilized for setting up a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the production of rolling stock and metro coaches.
This strategic land allotment aligns with the Central Government’s flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative and aims to enhance indigenous manufacturing capabilities in the rail and urban transportation sectors. The upcoming BEML facility is expected to meet the growing demand for advanced metro and railway coaches across India, strengthening the company’s role in national transport infrastructure development.
The move further consolidates BEML’s position as a leading manufacturer of rail and metro components, with the new facility set to support urban transit expansion projects in multiple states.
Just days earlier, on May 9, BEML announced the acquisition of another 100 acres of land in Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh, at a nominal rate of Re 1 per acre. This land is earmarked for the development of a cutting-edge Heavy Earth Moving Equipment manufacturing unit. The update was shared via a regulatory filing with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE Limited.
BEML Limited, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, specializes in the design, development, and manufacture of products for Defence & Aerospace, Rail & Metro, and Mining & Construction sectors. The company has played a critical role in supplying modern rolling stock for metro rail systems in cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
