New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has floated tenders for package D2C-07 under the ambitious Phase IV expansion, inviting bids from construction firms for one of the most technically demanding stretches of the upcoming network. The last date for bid submission has been fixed as January 12, 2026.
The scope of package D2C-07 covers the design and construction of twin tunnels using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), a cut-and-cover tunnel section, and four major underground stations: New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya–IG Stadium, and Indraprastha. The work also includes creating interconnections at New Delhi, Delhi Gate, and Indraprastha stations, along with architectural finishing, water supply systems, sanitary facilities, and drainage works across the corridor. The package spans chainage 7629.531 m to 11700.00 m on the down line of the Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor.
According to DMRC, the project is expected to be completed in 42 months from the date of commencement, underscoring the scale of engineering, tunnelling complexity, and urban coordination required in one of the busiest parts of the national capital.
A Critical Piece of Delhi’s Evolving Metro Network
This underground stretch forms a key part of the Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor, one of six corridors being developed under Phase IV. Delhi Metro’s Phase IV involves the construction of a 112.4 km network at an investment of ₹468 billion, aimed at significantly strengthening connectivity, reducing vehicular dependency, and improving urban mobility across the National Capital Region.
Of the six corridors, three are being executed on a priority basis—Maujpur–Mukundpur (12.31 km), Janakpuri West–RK Ashram (29.26 km), and Aerocity–Tughlakabad (23.62 km). In 2024, the Central Government also approved the remaining three corridors: Inderlok–Indraprastha (12.37 km), Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block (8.38 km), and Rithala–Narela–Kundli (26.46 km), enabling a comprehensive expansion of the city’s metro grid.
Welcoming the tender announcement, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, highlighted the importance of timely execution of Phase IV. She noted that each new package tendered reflects the capital’s commitment to sustainable and integrated mobility. “Delhi Metro’s continued progress under Phase IV marks a pivotal step in shaping the city’s transit future. The start of tunnelling and underground station works will not only improve connectivity but also set new benchmarks in engineering excellence and commuter experience,” she said.
With multiple underground segments, interchanges, and corridor interfaces, package D2C-07 will be instrumental in carrying forward the next phase of Delhi’s urban transformation. Once operational, the Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor will offer seamless interchange opportunities and reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters, strengthening the Metro’s role as the backbone of Delhi’s public transport ecosystem.
