Patna, India (Metro Rail Today): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the tunnel digging work by pressing the button of tunnel boring machine (nicknamed 'Mahaveer') under Patna Metro Rail Project at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium.
The officials of Patna Metro Rail Project gave detailed information about the construction work to the Chief Minister through a documentary. Along with this, a short film related to the construction work of Patna Metro was also screened before the Chief Minister. Chief Minister said that the metro work in Patna will be completed on time and the budget constraint has now been managed.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the construction work of Patna Metro Rail, while directing the officials to speed up the construction work and complete it at the earliest. With the completion of the construction work of Patna Metro Rail, there will be a lot of convenience for the people. The Chief Minister also unveiled the logo of Patna Metro. During the programme, the chief minister was presented with a symbol.
Talking to reporters after the programme, the Chief Minister said that the metro train will run above ground at many places and underground at some places. Here the metro station will also be built underground. When it is ready, it will look very nice.
"Last year we came here and got the underground work started. Now further work has started here. We want the work to be done faster. Metro work started in Delhi during the time of Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. At that time also we had seen the work there. The same people are doing the construction of the metro here and the construction work is going on very well. With the construction of Metro, the people of Patna will get a lot of convenience," he said.
"There will be no dearth of funds for this. Funds have already been arranged. 60 percent funds have to come from JICA. An agreement has been signed regarding this. Funds are being received from the Central Government, State Government and JICA," he added.
Last month, the engineers of Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) lowered the first tunnel boring machine (TBM, nicknamed Mahaveer) to construct about 8 km tunnel for Corridor 2 of Patna Metro Rail Project.
The 14.05 km Corridor 2 of Patna Metro will connect Patna Railway Junction to New Inter State Bus Terminal with 12 stations at Patna Junction (interchange with Corridor 1), Akashvani (formerly Dak Bungalow), Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, Moin Ul Haq Stadium, Rajendra Nagar, Malahi Pakri, Khemni Chak (interchange), Bhoothnath, Zero Mile and New ISBT. Out of, 6 kilometres section with 5 stations will be elavated and remaining 8 kilometres with 7 stations will be underground.
