Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Gurugram Metro project, Cengrs Goetechnica has secured a contract worth ₹53.90 lakh for the geotechnical soil investigation of the upcoming 28.50 km elevated metro line. This line is set to connect HUDA Millennium City Centre with DLF Cybercity, a crucial corridor designed to enhance connectivity in Gurugram (Gurgaon).
The entirely elevated metro line spans 28.50 km and encompasses 27 stations, serving both new and old Gurugram. The Union Cabinet of the Indian Government approved for its construction in June 2023, signaling a strategic move to bolster the mass rapid transport infrastructure in the region. The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) initiated the bidding process for geotechnical contracts in December 2023, and Cengrs Goetechnica emerged as the awardee of one of these contracts.
The contract's scope involves conducting geotechnical soil investigation along a 12.76 km stretch of the metro line, specifically from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. This portion of the elevated corridor is integral to the overall 28.50 km stretch from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, including a 1.85 km spur to Sector 101 Gurugram. The geotechnical findings will play a crucial role in informing civil construction tender documents, guiding infrastructure companies in their financial bids, and facilitating the use of appropriate machinery, methods, and technology during the construction phase.
The contract signing ceremony took place recently, marking a formal commencement of the geotechnical investigation phase. This is a critical step towards gathering essential data for subsequent stages of the metro project, contributing to informed decision-making and ensuring the robustness of the construction process.
The first line of the Gurugram Metro Rail Project, spanning 26.65 km, aims to connect HUDA City Centre and Cybercity through 26 strategically located stations. Additionally, a 1.85 km spur will link Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway, incorporating one station to provide connectivity to the depot. While this development is a positive stride, the project is still in the process of assigning a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC), with bidding currently underway.
The bidding rounds for the DDC have seen limited participation, indicating potential challenges in the detailed design phase. The current technical bid opening date is scheduled for March 7, and the timeline for detailed designs and subsequent civil construction bidding suggests that the commencement of construction in 2024 is becoming increasingly unlikely.
While the geotechnical investigation marks a crucial milestone for the Gurugram Metro's HUDA – Cyber City Line, the challenges in the subsequent phases underscore the intricate nature of metro infrastructure development, requiring meticulous planning and execution.
