Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a groundbreaking achievement that signals a paradigm shift in Indian metro projects, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has successfully introduced an advanced puller axle system for transporting and erecting a massive 30m U girder to a height of 20m. This remarkable feat, executed in the Chenani Metro Phase 2, Corridor 3 from Nehru Nagar to Sholinganallur – EV-01 (Elevated Viaduct), stands as a first-of-its-kind endeavor in the Indian metro rail construction landscape. The prestigious project has been awarded to Larson & Toubro Ltd (L&T), marking a significant milestone for CMRL and the nation's metro infrastructure.
The highlight of this pioneering accomplishment is the introduction of a specially fabricated trailer designed exclusively for the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) stretch. The trailer boasts 12 axles, each equipped with 8 tires, totaling an impressive 96 tires. Meticulously distributed across two axles, the puller axle not only underlines CMRL's unwavering commitment to excellence but also establishes a new benchmark in metro construction. This innovative system ensures optimal weight distribution, stability, and flexibility during the seamless transportation of the colossal 185MT U Girder.
The successful deployment of the puller axle technology for the transportation and erection of the 30m U girder is a historic milestone in the Indian metro construction landscape. This accomplishment underscores the capabilities and expertise of the CMRL and Larson & Toubro (L&T) project team, showcasing their commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation in metro infrastructure.
As the CMRL project team continues to pioneer innovative solutions, this achievement symbolizes not only a historic milestone for the Indian metro sector but also highlights the nation's capability to execute complex and ambitious projects with precision and expertise. The introduction of the puller axle system opens doors to new possibilities in metro rail construction, setting a precedent for future endeavors.
The first-ever 'U' Girder span, spanning Okkiyampet and Karapakkam, was successfully erected on January 10, 2024. T. Archunan, Director (Projects) at CMRL, along with officials and staff of CMRL, General Consultant (GC), and Larson & Toubro (L&T), graced the occasion with their presence, marking the commencement of a new era in Indian metro rail construction.
In conclusion, Chennai Metro Rail's innovative approach and successful execution of the puller axle system exemplify a transformative leap in the nation's metro construction capabilities. This pioneering achievement not only propels CMRL to the forefront of metro innovation but also contributes to elevating India's stature in executing complex infrastructure projects.
