The tendering process, initiated by Maha-Metro, saw two firms vying for the contract. After technical bids were opened on May 26, a thorough evaluation was conducted, leading to the rejection of JMD Consultants in the technical round. Subsequently, Colossus Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. was declared the lowest financial bidder on July 16, officially bagging the contract. This award marks an important step toward strengthening the operational excellence of Nagpur Metro’s urban transit system.
Currently, Phase 1 of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project is fully operational, featuring two corridors—the Orange Line (North–South Corridor) and the Aqua Line (East–West Corridor)—collectively spanning 38.215 km. Phase 1, developed at an investment of over ₹8,650 crore, has significantly improved public transportation within Nagpur, offering faster, safer, and eco-friendly commuting options.
The operational corridors include:
-
Orange Line: Automotive Square to Khapri – 19.658 km
-
Aqua Line: Lokmanya Nagar to Prajapati Nagar – 18.557 km
Building upon this foundation, Phase 2 of the Nagpur Metro is currently under construction and will add 43.8 km to the network through four strategic extensions:
-
Orange Line: Khapri to MIDC ESR – 18.5 km
-
Orange Line: Automotive Square to Kanhan River – 13 km
-
Aqua Line: Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar – 5.6 km
-
Aqua Line: Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna – 6.7 km
This phase aims to integrate more suburban and industrial regions of Nagpur, extending metro benefits to a wider population and supporting regional development goals.
As Maha-Metro continues to push forward with infrastructure development, partnerships like these are essential in maintaining service standards, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the successful expansion of metro rail services across emerging Indian cities. With Phase 2 on the horizon, Nagpur is steadily cementing its place on India’s smart transport map.
