Contract agreement signed for DPR of Chennai Metro's Poonamalle-Parandur Corridor

Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has recently signed a pivotal contract agreement to develop the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a significant new metro corridor extending from Poonamalle to Parandur. This 43.63-kilometer route, which will connect key locations such as Thirumazhisai and Sriperambudur, marks a crucial development in Chennai’s transportation infrastructure. The contract, valued at Rs. 1.74 crore (excluding GST), has been awarded to M/s Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers & Consultants Pvt Ltd.

The formalization of this agreement took place on June 11, 2024. The signing ceremony was attended by a range of high-profile officials, including M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., the Managing Director of CMRL, and T. Archunan, Director (Projects) of CMRL. Representing M/s Aarvee Associates, M. Khaleel Basha, Vice President, was present. Other notable attendees included T. Livingstone Eliazer, CGM (PP&D), Rekha Prakash, CGM (P&D), alongside various officials from both CMRL and the consulting firm.

This metro corridor will feature approximately 19 elevated stations, underscoring the project's scope and scale. The DPR will incorporate recent developments such as the proposed new airport at Parandur and a new bus terminus at Thirumazhisai. These elements are integral to the future growth and development prospects along the corridor.

The preparation of the DPR will involve rigorous groundwork, including over 100 boreholes for soil investigation and the use of advanced drone technology for topographical surveys. These efforts are critical in ensuring the structural integrity and efficiency of the metro system.

The anticipated completion date for the DPR is November 2024. This comprehensive report will include an extensive alignment study, which will finalize the number of stations and assess the land requirements necessary for the successful implementation of the project.

This metro corridor project is poised to play a significant role in improving urban mobility and supporting Chennai's infrastructure growth. The detailed study and planning phases will lay the foundation for a robust and efficient transportation network, reinforcing CMRL's commitment to enhancing the city's public transport system.
