Dineshchandra–DMRC JV bags ₹948 crore contract for Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major development for the ambitious Mumbai – Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Bullet Train project, the Dineshchandra – DMRC JV has clinched a crucial civil construction contract for the Thane Depot (Package D-1). The Mumbai – Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail, spanning 508.17 km, aims to revolutionize rail connectivity in India.

Thane Depot: A Pivotal Component of MAHSR

The awarded contract, valued at Rs. 947.82 crore, has been granted to the Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon – Delhi Metro Rail Corporation JV. This encompasses a financial allocation of INR 766.74 crore along with JPY 3 billion. The Thane Depot is integral to the operations of India's National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) and is designed for the stable maintenance of Shinkansen train-sets.

Located on a sprawling 58-hectare land parcel near Bharodi and Anjur villages in Maharashtra, the Thane Depot assumes critical importance in the MAHSR project. It is poised to be the second-largest train depot after the Sabarmati Depot, currently under construction north of Ahmedabad city.

Comprehensive Facilities at Thane Depot

The Thane Depot will serve as a hub for light maintenance work and is envisaged to feature 4 inspection lines initially (expanding to 8 in the future), 10 stabling lines (31 in the future), an inspection bay, and a washing plant. These facilities are essential for the upkeep and maintenance of the advanced Shinkansen train-sets that will ply on the MAHSR route.

NHSRCL had initiated the tendering process for the Thane Depot's construction in December 2022, with an estimated cost undisclosed at that time. The construction deadline set for this significant project is 2010 days, equivalent to 5.5 years.

Dineshchandra – DMRC JV: A Winning Streak

This recent win for the Dineshchandra – DMRC JV follows their successful bid for the redevelopment contract of Ahmedabad Railway Station from India's Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) in November 2023. The consistent success of the joint venture underscores their expertise and capability in delivering critical infrastructure projects.

Completion of Civil Construction Contracts

The awarding of the Thane Depot contract marks a crucial milestone for the MAHSR project. NHSRCL has now successfully awarded all 10 civil construction contracts for the entire project, including 8 contracts for the mainline and 2 contracts dedicated to essential depots.

Advancing High-Speed Rail Connectivity

The Dineshchandra – DMRC JV's triumph in securing the Thane Depot contract propels the Mumbai – Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project forward. As India continues to invest in cutting-edge transportation infrastructure, this milestone reinforces the commitment to revolutionizing rail connectivity. With the Thane Depot poised to become a key operational center, the MAHSR project is on track to redefine the future of high-speed rail travel in the country.
