New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially launched passenger services on the Janakpuri West - Krishna Park Extension section of the Magenta Line, marking the inauguration of the first segment of the Phase-IV metro network.
The new section was inaugurated today by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, who also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming 26.5-kilometre Rithala - Narela - Kundli (Sonipat) Metro corridor, a significant addition to Delhi's transportation infrastructure.
"Over the last decade, extensive work has been done in boosting metro connectivity, thus strengthening urban transport and enhancing ‘Ease of Living’, said Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
“Over the past decade, the government's primary focus has been on infrastructure development”, said the Prime Minister. He noted that ten years ago, the budget for infrastructure was around ₹2 lakh crore, which has now increased to over ₹11 lakh crore. He added that emphasis has been on modern connectivity, particularly within cities and connecting one city to another. The Prime Minister mentioned that expressways are now emerging from Delhi to various cities, and Delhi is being connected to industrial corridors. He remarked that in the NCR, a large multi-modal logistics hub is being developed, and two freight corridors are converging in Delhi-NCR. Shri Modi highlighted that these projects were contributing to the country's economic growth and providing employment opportunities for the youth. “Modern infrastructure is helping to ensure a dignified and quality life for everyone, including the poor and the middle class”, he added.
Service Availability and Network Expansion
The Janakpuri West - Krishna Park Extension section became operational on January 5, 2025, with services starting at 3 PM. This extension adds another station to the already operational Botanical Garden – Janakpuri West corridor on the Magenta Line, enhancing connectivity for commuters in the surrounding areas.
With this addition, the Delhi Metro network now includes 289 stations, covering a total length of 394.448 kilometres. The Magenta Line extension from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension is part of the larger Phase-IV expansion plan.
Improved Connectivity and Future Plans
The new section will initially offer train services every 16 minutes between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension. With the completion of this extension, the Magenta Line will span nearly 40 kilometres. Further expansion of the Magenta Line from Krishna Park Extension to RK Ashram Marg is scheduled for completion in phases by 2026.
The Phase-IV project, which will ultimately enhance metro connectivity across the Delhi-NCR region, is progressing with ongoing construction on other segments, such as the Rithala - Narela - Kundli (Sonipat) corridor, which will further ease travel and reduce congestion.
Stay updated with the latest developments on Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV and enjoy seamless connectivity across the city with the newly operational Janakpuri West - Krishna Park Extension section.
