ICF signs MoU for supply of 51 Three-Car Metro Trainsets for Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project

Chennai, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE/Bi-RIDE) and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the manufacturing and supply of 51 rakes of three-car trainsets for the Bengaluru Suburban Transport Project (BSTP).

The MoU was signed at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai on September 1, 2026, marking an important rolling stock milestone for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP).

The agreement was signed in the presence of Shri Lakshman Singh, Managing Director, K-RIDE/Bi-RIDE, and Shri Manish Agarwal, General Manager, ICF, Chennai, along with senior officials from K-RIDE and ICF.

Modern Rolling Stock for Bengaluru Suburban Rail

The MoU follows the issuance of the work order for the design, manufacture and supply of the 51 rakes. The scope of the contract includes design, manufacturing, inspection, testing and commissioning of the coaches, as well as obtaining the necessary statutory approvals from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO).

The scope also includes system integration and compliance with RAMS requirements covering Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety. These elements are expected to be critical to ensuring safe, dependable and efficient operations on Bengaluru's upcoming suburban rail network.

The proposed three-car trainsets will form a key part of the operational infrastructure being developed for the Bengaluru Suburban Transport Project, which aims to provide faster and more reliable connectivity between Bengaluru and its surrounding regions.

The association with the Integral Coach Factory, one of Indian Railways' major rolling stock manufacturing facilities, represents a significant step in advancing the train procurement programme for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project.

Modern, purpose-designed trainsets are essential for the success of high-capacity suburban rail operations, particularly in a rapidly growing metropolitan region such as Bengaluru. The new rolling stock is expected to support frequent services and provide a dependable public transport alternative for daily commuters.
