DMRC submits DPR for 11.56km metro route connecting Botanical Garden to Greater Noida

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant move towards enhancing metro connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has submitted the detailed project report (DPR) for a new 11.56km metro link. The proposed link will connect from the Botanical Garden Metro station on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line to Sector 142 station on Noida Metro’s Aqua Line, aiming to establish direct connectivity between Greater Noida and the Delhi Metro.

Currently, Greater Noida and Noida are linked to the Delhi Metro via Noida Metro’s 29.7km Aqua Line corridor. However, this connectivity to Delhi Metro’s Blue Line is not seamless. The new 11.56km link, once approved, will seamlessly bridge this gap and also bring the metro closer to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.

The project, estimated to cost ₹2,254.35 crore, envisions the metro link branching out from the Botanical Garden station. It will run parallel to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway before connecting to Sector 142 Metro station of the Aqua Line. This strategic development aims to streamline metro connectivity in the region, catering to the increasing demand for efficient transportation.

Lokesh M, Managing Director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) and CEO of Noida Authority, highlighted the importance of the project in aligning with the priority to provide metro connectivity to the greenfield Noida International Airport. The submission of the DPR marks a crucial step in the project's progression, with further approvals anticipated from both the state and central governments.

The Greater Noida Authority had approved the metro link in its 114th board meeting on May 31, 2019, with the aim of facilitating direct connectivity between Greater Noida and Delhi. The subsequent feasibility study, considering factors such as expected passenger traffic, economic growth, and ridership during peak hours, indicated the route's feasibility.

The DMRC, having prepared the DPR, has submitted it after incorporating suggested changes. The revised DPR includes eight stations, namely Botanical Garden, Sector 44, Noida’s new building in Sector 96, Sector 97, Sector 105, Sector 108, Sector 93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College in Sector 91.

With the state's approval, the project will proceed to seek clearances from the central government, marking a crucial phase in realizing enhanced metro connectivity in the Greater Noida region.

The proposed metro link represents a significant stride in addressing the connectivity needs of the NCR. As urban areas continue to expand, seamless and efficient transportation infrastructure becomes imperative. The DMRC's efforts in submitting the DPR align with the broader vision of creating a well-connected and accessible metropolitan region. Stay tuned for further updates on the approval and subsequent phases of this transformative metro project.
