Maha-Metro to appoint Design Consultants for ₹12,200 crore Thane Integral Ring Metro Project

Thane, India (Metro Rail Today): Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has invited bids for the appointment of detailed design consultants (DDCs) for key elevated stations under the Thane Integral Ring Metro Project. The move signals steady progress in the pre-construction phase of the ambitious circular metro corridor planned to transform urban mobility in Thane.

The tenders, issued on April 1, 2026, cover the design consultancy for a total of 13 elevated stations across two packages. This development follows earlier civil tender activity and reflects Maha Metro’s strategy to accelerate project readiness through parallel processing of critical components.

Two Packages Covering Strategic Station Clusters

Under Tender Notice No. T1-031/DDC-05/2026, consultancy services have been invited for seven elevated stations, including Azad Nagar Bus Stop, Manorama Nagar, Kolshet Industrial Area, Balkum Naka, Balkum Pada, Rabodi and Shivaji Chowk. The bid submission deadline is May 15, 2026, with technical bids scheduled to open on May 18, 2026.

The second package, issued under Tender Notice No. T1-030/DDC-04/2026, covers six elevated stations—Raila Devi, Wagle Circle, Lokmanya Nagar Bus Depot, Shivai Nagar, Neelkanth Terminal and Gandhi Nagar. The submission deadline for this package is May 14, 2026, with bid opening on May 15, 2026.

The selected consultants will be responsible for preparing detailed engineering designs, ensuring compliance with technical standards and supporting the overall execution framework for station development.

Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “Early-stage design consultancy plays a critical role in ensuring efficient execution of metro projects. By appointing specialised consultants for station design, Maha Metro is laying a strong foundation for timely delivery, quality infrastructure and enhanced passenger experience.”

Advancing Thane’s Circular Metro Vision

The Thane Integral Ring Metro Project is envisioned as a 29-kilometre circular corridor with 22 stations, aimed at significantly improving intra-city connectivity. The project will connect key residential, commercial and industrial areas while integrating with upcoming Metro Lines 4 and 5, creating a more cohesive urban transit network.

With Thane witnessing rapid urbanisation and increasing traffic congestion, the ring metro is expected to provide a reliable, high-capacity alternative to road transport, reducing travel time and easing pressure on existing infrastructure.

Focus on Integrated and Future-Ready Design

The appointment of detailed design consultants is a crucial step in translating project plans into executable engineering solutions. From structural design to passenger flow planning and multimodal integration, the consultants will play a vital role in shaping stations that are efficient, safe and commuter-friendly.

As Maha Metro continues to advance the Thane Ring Metro Project, the issuance of these tenders highlights a clear push toward detailed planning and execution. With multiple packages progressing simultaneously, the project is steadily moving closer to the construction phase.

The development underscores the growing focus on expanding metro connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, positioning Thane for a more sustainable and efficient urban transport future.
