DPJC Infra begins casting viaduct segments for Reach 2A of Nagpur Metro Phase 2

Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Nagpur's burgeoning metro network, D.P. Jain & Co. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. has commenced the process of casting the first box segment for the 6.92 km Package C-01 in Reach 2A of Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2 project. This milestone marks a crucial step forward in the expansion of the city's metro infrastructure, aimed at enhancing connectivity and easing urban mobility for residents.

The northern extension of Nagpur Metro’s Orange Line, spanning 19.658 km and constructed during Phase 1, has been a pivotal asset in addressing the city's transportation needs. In September 2023, a civil contract worth Rs. 394.89 crore for the expansion project was awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL), which subsequently entrusted the construction responsibilities to DP Jain & Co. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.

DP Jain & Co. has set up a casting yard in Khairy village on Kamptee Road (NH-247) to facilitate the production of segments for the viaduct. The commencement of casting operations signals the beginning of a meticulous process aimed at ensuring the structural integrity and quality of each segment.

The first segment, labeled S5, is slated to be positioned between piers 2P (116-117). With dimensions of 3m in length, 8.5m in top width, and 3.5m in bottom width, the segment is expected to weigh approximately 37 metric tons. This initial casting heralds the onset of a series of segment productions that will culminate in the completion of the viaduct.

In line with the efficiency-driven approach adopted in previous metro projects in Pune and Nagpur, Phase 2 of Nagpur Metro incorporates innovative techniques to streamline construction processes. Notably, all segments are integrated and cast along with a parapet wall, a practice unique within India’s metro infrastructure landscape. This integration serves to minimize construction time, transportation costs, and the need for separate casting molds.

The elevated Reach 2A, stretching over 13 km, will extend Nagpur Metro’s Orange Line from Automotive Square to Kanhan River via 12 elevated stations. Package C-01 encompasses the viaduct work between Automotive Square Station and Lekha Nagar Station, representing a critical segment of the Phase 2 expansion project.

Additionally, construction activities for six stations along the route—Pili Nadi, Khasara Fata, All India Radio, Kheri Fata, Lok Vihar, and Lekha Nagar—will be undertaken as part of Package C-05, also awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. This coordinated approach ensures the seamless integration of infrastructure development efforts across different phases and segments of the metro project.

The commencement of segment casting by DP Jain & Co. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. marks a significant milestone in the ongoing expansion of Nagpur Metro's Phase 2 project. With innovative construction methods and a focus on efficiency, the project aims to enhance urban connectivity, reduce travel times, and bolster the city's infrastructure network. As the metro network continues to evolve, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Nagpur's future as a modern and sustainable urban center.
