Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Mumbai Metro Line-4 project, Eagle Infra India has secured the position of the lowest bidder for the architectural finishing and pre-engineered building (PEB) roof contract CA-194. This contract encompasses work on seven stations along the 32.32 km stretch from Wadala to Kasarvadavali.
The seven elevated stations, strategically positioned at the northern end of Mumbai Metro’s Green Line, include Mulund Fire Station, Mulund Naka, Teen Haath Naka (Thane), RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Cadbury Junction, and Majiwada.
Eagle Infra India's successful bid comes after a competitive bidding process initiated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in October 2023. The estimated value of the contract stands at Rs. 198.19 crore, with a stipulated deadline of 20 months. The technical evaluation phase, conducted in December 2023, saw the disqualification of Relcon Infraprojects and Tata Projects Ltd. due to non-compliance with tender conditions.
The financial bid values submitted by the contenders are as follows:
Eagle Infra India's bid, although 23.94% higher than MMRDA's estimate, positions them as the frontrunner for the contract. Negotiations are expected to ensue, and it remains to be seen if there will be room for a reduction in the bid amount.
The scope of the architectural finishing contract includes plumbing works, interior fit-outs, facade work, and the design, fabrication, supply, and erection of pre-engineered structures. This work spans seven elevated stations, contributing to the comprehensive development of Mumbai Metro Line-4, connecting Wadala, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, and Kasaravadavali.
As part of the broader metro project, Systra MVA Consulting, the Detailed Design Consultant for Line-4, collaborated with GPM Architects & Planners for the design of 12 stations. While the current status of the design is uncertain, renderings from GPM Architects & Planners showcase their vision for the project.
The Mumbai Metro Line-4 project, including the CA-194 contract, is progressing amidst challenges. The line, along with other metro lines in Mumbai, is facing delays, and the opening date is not anticipated before 2026. The retender notice for the line's 234-coach rolling stock contract, terminated by Alstom Transport in early 2022, is still pending.
As Mumbai strives to enhance its metro connectivity, the successful awarding of contracts and strategic collaborations will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in the city.
Eagle Infra India's emergence as the lowest bidder for the Mumbai Metro Line 4 stations’ finishing contract marks a significant milestone in the project's progression. With negotiations on the horizon, the collaborative efforts between stakeholders and the commitment to overcoming challenges will contribute to the successful realization of an efficient and modern metro network in Mumbai.
