Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Kanpur witnessed a significant event as a three-member delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) visited the Kanpur Metro Rail Project on October 20, 2023. The delegation took note of the remarkable progress made by the project team, acknowledging the adherence to international quality and safety standards in the execution of the project.
Director of Finance at Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), Sheel Kumar Mittal, expressed the significance of EIB's support, highlighting their vital contribution to several metro projects, including those in Lucknow, Kanpur, and Agra. With a total funding of approximately 650 million euros for the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, the EIB remains a trusted financial partner for the initiative, providing critical assistance alongside contributions from the central and state governments.
Managing Director of UPMRC, Sushil Kumar, emphasized the commitment to transforming Kanpur's urban transportation infrastructure into a world-class system. Notably, the project has made significant strides, already commencing revenue services on the 9 km long priority stretch, well ahead of the established timeline. The team's efforts have propelled the civil construction work for the underground section from Chunniganj to Nayaganj, with rapid progress in tunnel construction and concurrent advancements in system and signaling work.
During the visit, the EIB delegation had the opportunity to explore both corridors of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, commending the team's dedication and the timely execution of the project. With a total estimated cost of approximately Rs 11,076 crore, the project signifies a significant milestone in Kanpur's urban development journey.
The collaboration with the European Investment Bank reinforces the state's vision for an efficient, sustainable, and modern transportation system, contributing to the city's economic growth and development.
With the collective efforts of UPMRC, the EIB, and other stakeholders, the Kanpur Metro Rail Project is poised to be a testament to successful international collaboration and a symbol of Kanpur's progressive urban infrastructure.
