First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Roll Out for Trial Tests on Indian Railways Track

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The eagerly awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper train is one step closer to reality, with the first prototype having been dispatched from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai for trial runs, the Ministry of Railways confirmed on Wednesday.

Key Details of the Vande Bharat Sleeper:

  • Dispatch and Trials: The Vande Bharat Sleeper prototype has been sent for rigorous test rides that will last several weeks before the official commercial launch. The train will undergo various simulations, including loaded trials, to ensure its readiness for passenger service.
  • Train Features: The fully AC train is designed for long- and medium-distance travel. It boasts 16 coaches, including one first-class coach, four two-tier coaches, and 11 three-tier coaches. Passengers can expect enhanced comfort, with features such as individual seat lights, bottle holders, and improved upper berth ladders. The toilets have also been upgraded for better space and comfort.
  • Design & Comfort: The train's aesthetic features a modern orange-grey livery, while the interiors showcase yellow and grey seats designed for better passenger comfort compared to typical AC trains.

Vande Bharat Sleeper: A New Era of Rail Travel

The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are the latest variant in the Vande Bharat Express family, which is already transforming India's rail network with its high-speed, comfortable services. The sleeper trains are designed to offer passengers a luxurious travel experience, combining modern amenities with the reliability of India's vast railway network.

As part of a larger rollout, 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are currently in production for long- and medium-distance journeys across the country. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to run between Delhi and Kashmir, a region that has been deprived of direct train connectivity for decades.

Timeline and Future Outlook

Once the trials are completed successfully, the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are expected to be rolled out gradually. The Indian Railways aims to modernize its fleet with 200 Vande Bharat Sleeper rakes, with manufacturing already underway. The success of these trials will be critical to the timeline for the commercial launch.

Additional Updates:

  • USBRL Project: The final track work on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project has been completed, a significant development for the Kashmir region. This project, described as one of the most challenging railway lines undertaken post-independence, will connect the northernmost parts of the country with the rest of India.
  • Rising Popularity: The success of the Vande Bharat Express with 136 trains already operational across the Broad Gauge electrified network of Indian Railways highlights the growing demand for high-speed, modern rail travel in India. These trains have consistently achieved occupancy rates over 100%, reflecting the need for more comfortable and efficient transportation options.

As the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains prepare for field trials, their introduction promises to revolutionize rail travel in India, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable, and eco-friendly alternative to traditional travel. With ongoing developments and the future rollout of these sleeper services, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to become an integral part of India’s transportation landscape.
