New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The eagerly awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper train is one step closer to reality, with the first prototype having been dispatched from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai for trial runs, the Ministry of Railways confirmed on Wednesday.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are the latest variant in the Vande Bharat Express family, which is already transforming India's rail network with its high-speed, comfortable services. The sleeper trains are designed to offer passengers a luxurious travel experience, combining modern amenities with the reliability of India's vast railway network.
As part of a larger rollout, 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are currently in production for long- and medium-distance journeys across the country. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to run between Delhi and Kashmir, a region that has been deprived of direct train connectivity for decades.
Once the trials are completed successfully, the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are expected to be rolled out gradually. The Indian Railways aims to modernize its fleet with 200 Vande Bharat Sleeper rakes, with manufacturing already underway. The success of these trials will be critical to the timeline for the commercial launch.
As the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains prepare for field trials, their introduction promises to revolutionize rail travel in India, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable, and eco-friendly alternative to traditional travel. With ongoing developments and the future rollout of these sleeper services, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to become an integral part of India’s transportation landscape.
