Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Four prominent firms have submitted bids for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for traction and power supply works in the 44.65 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3 project. The bids, opened today, come as part of the ongoing development of Bangalore’s ambitious metro expansion, which will further enhance the city’s connectivity.
Phase 3 of Bangalore Metro involves the construction of two new lines in the western part of the city. The first, the 32.15 km Orange Line, will connect Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase via 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The second, a 12.5 km line, will connect Kadabagare to Hosahalli via 9 stations. Both lines are set to be powered by a 750V DC third rail system, similar to previous phases of the metro.
The DDC contract (Package EPDD-5) will cover the detailed design for all traction substations, auxiliary substations, power cables, the 750V DC third rail system, and the SCADA system. The consultancy will be pivotal in ensuring the technical integrity and efficiency of the traction and power supply infrastructure for these new metro lines.
List of Bidders
The following firms have submitted their bids for the DDC contract for Package EPDD-5:
The bids will now undergo a technical evaluation process, which is expected to take a couple of months. Once the technical evaluation is completed, the financial bids of the technically-qualified bidders will be opened to determine the lowest bidder, who will most likely be awarded the consultancy contract.
Next Steps for Bangalore Metro Phase 3
This contract marks another step in the long process of developing Bangalore Metro Phase 3, with earlier in December 2024, BMRCL having received bids for the civil structure’s three Detailed Design Consultant contracts. The timeline for the first civil construction tenders is expected to begin no sooner than the first quarter of 2026.
As BMRCL continues to expand and modernize the metro network, the traction and power supply systems in Phase 3 will play a key role in providing reliable, efficient, and sustainable services for the city’s growing population. The completion of Phase 3 will significantly enhance Bangalore's public transport infrastructure and provide faster, more convenient travel options across the city.
