Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has officially invited bids for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of passenger rolling stock, along with a 15-year Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC).
The rolling stock tender marks another crucial milestone in Nagpur’s ongoing metro expansion under Phase 2, which spans 43.8 km and aims to enhance regional connectivity and commuter convenience across the city’s growing suburban areas.

The tender calls for 16 modern trainsets that will operate across the extended corridors being developed under Nagpur Metro Phase 2. The under-construction Nagpur Metro Phase 2 extends the existing Orange and Aqua Lines built in Phase 1, reaching deeper into suburban and industrial zones to improve last-mile connectivity.

Maha-Metro aims to make Nagpur India’s model green metro, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency, technology integration, and sustainable urban transport. The rolling stock for Phase 2 is expected to feature lightweight stainless-steel or aluminum bodies, energy-efficient propulsion systems, and enhanced passenger comfort features aligned with international standards.

“The rolling stock procurement is a critical step in ensuring timely completion of Phase 2. These trainsets will embody next-generation features that enhance commuter safety, comfort, and operational reliability while reducing energy consumption.”
