Indore, India Metro Rail Today): In a major step forward for Indore's metro rail network, Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) and Tata Projects Limited (TPL) have secured a significant ₹2,191 crore contract to construct an 8.65 km underground corridor as part of the Indore Metro Rail Phase 1 project. The announcement was made in a regulatory filing on March 17, 2025.
Under the contract, designated as Package IN-05R, HCC holds a 55% stake, valued at approximately ₹1,205 crore. This crucial underground segment will be the only one in the entire 31.32 km Indore Metro Phase 1 project. The scope of the work includes the construction of 11.32 km of tunnel using tunnel boring machines (TBM), as well as the building of seven underground stations: Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalani Nagar, and Airport.
This underground corridor will form a key part of the metro’s connectivity, linking a ramp east of Indore Railway Station to a ramp west of Airport Station, significantly enhancing the underground transportation infrastructure of Madhya Pradesh’s largest city.
HCC, with its extensive experience in metro construction, brings substantial expertise to this project. The company has been involved in numerous high-profile metro projects, including Mumbai Metro Line III, Chennai Metro, Delhi Metro, Bangalore Metro, Mumbai Metro Line I, and Kolkata Metro. Additionally, HCC has built over 4,036 lane km of highways and 403 bridges in its nearly 100-year engineering history, making it a trusted name in the infrastructure sector.
