India launches first High Speed Bullet Train Manufacturing Complex in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): HUBNER Group has announced that its state-of-the-art “Namma Factory” in Bengaluru has marked a series of impressive milestones in just 18 months since its commissioning. This cutting-edge facility has achieved the production and delivery of its 2,000th gangway system, signaling a major accomplishment for HUBNER India and its global operations.
The Namma Factory has been instrumental in fulfilling two significant contracts, delivering a total of 540 gangway systems for the Vande Bharat Express (Train 18). This achievement underscores the factory’s capacity to meet large-scale demands efficiently and with precision. Additionally, the factory has begun producing gangway systems for major metro projects in São Paulo, Brazil, and Cairo, Egypt, further expanding HUBNER India’s international footprint.
In response to the increased demand and expanded production capabilities, HUBNER India has substantially grown its workforce. The team has expanded from 125 to nearly 200 employees, reflecting the factory’s ability to manage large orders and complex projects. Among the notable ongoing projects is an extensive order from BEML for 800 gangway systems for the Mumbai Metro. This order is one of the largest in HUBNER Group’s history, highlighting the strategic importance of the Namma Factory.
The Namma Factory stands out not only for its production achievements but also for its commitment to sustainability. The facility integrates advanced sustainability technologies, including a photovoltaic system that generated 587,055 kilowatt hours (KWh) of electricity in its first year. This renewable energy initiative has significantly reduced reliance on fossil fuels, saving approximately 60 tons of CO2 emissions.
Moreover, the factory’s in-house wastewater treatment plant, with a daily capacity of 15 cubic meters, and its rainwater storage capabilities, have enabled the recycling of around 350 cubic meters of water. These measures contribute to substantial resource conservation and demonstrate HUBNER India’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The Namma Factory also plays a crucial role in developing local engineering expertise. For the Metro Cairo project, HUBNER is combining its knowledge from both its Kassel, Germany, and Bengaluru locations. The aim is to consolidate the entire product development process in India by the end of 2025, further strengthening HUBNER’s presence in the region.
Kai Mentel, Managing Director of HUBNER Group, expressed pride in the factory’s achievements: “Our Namma Factory represents a landmark accomplishment for HUBNER Group. It showcases our ability to scale production for both local and international markets while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability. This project not only enhances our global capabilities but also sets a new benchmark for resource-efficient manufacturing.”
As the Namma Factory continues to drive success and innovation, it remains a key asset in HUBNER’s global strategy, underscoring the company’s commitment to excellence and environmental stewardship.
