Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): IRCON International and Jakson Ltd. JV has emerged as the lowest bidder for the second major systems contract of Mumbai Metro’s 35.2 km Line-4 & Line-4A (Green Line), which will connect Wadala to Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh.
This significant contract, designated as Package CA-236, involves the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of power supply and traction systems, electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems, as well as lifts and escalators for 34 stations. Additionally, the contract includes 15 years of comprehensive maintenance following a two-year defect liability period.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited bids for this mega contract in February 2024, estimating it at ₹1,212 crore. The technical bids were opened in November 2024, revealing two competing firms.
IRCON – Jakson JV’s bid of ₹1,526 crore is 25.90% higher than MMRDA’s estimated cost, making negotiations likely before the contract is finalized. Given L&T’s higher bid, it remains uncertain whether MMRDA will renegotiate or move forward with the contract as-is to prevent further delays in the already sluggish project timeline.
Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Integration, Testing and Commissioning of Power supply and Traction, Electrical & Mechanical and Lifts & Escalators including 15 years of Comprehensive Maintenance after 2 years of Defect Liability Maintenance Period for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Extension Corridor (4A) [WADALA-KASARVADAVALI-GAIMUKH] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA.
This marks Jakson’s second major metro contract win in recent months. The company also secured the E&M-6 contract for Bengaluru Metro’s 57 km Blue Line, covering electrical and mechanical work at 28 stations along the Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport corridor.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was declared the lowest bidder for Mumbai Metro Line-4’s Package-1 (CA-234), which includes supplying rolling stock (234 coaches), CBTC-based signaling and train control systems, telecommunication infrastructure, platform screen doors (PSDs), and depot machinery for Mogharpada Depot.
As MMRDA evaluates its next steps, the decision on finalizing IRCON – Jakson JV’s contract will be pivotal in determining the pace of progress for the Green Line’s much-awaited development.
