Surat, India (India): The engineers of J Kumar Infraprojects has started tunneling of 3.56 km underground strecth (Surat Railway Station – Chowk Bazar Ramp) of Surat Metro Rail Project, Phase 1. The Terratec make Ø 6.61m diameter refurbished earth pressure balance machine "nicknamed Diya" was commissioned last week at Surat Metro station for tunneling under Package UG2/CS3.
In January 2021, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) had awarded a contract worth Rs 941.80 crore to J Kumar Infraprojects for the construction of 3.56 km underground strecth of 21.61 km Line-1 (Sarthana – Dream City) of Surat Metro Rail Project.
The scope of work includes design, construction and completion of underground stations and tunnel including Finishes from Surat Railway station to Chowk Bazar Ramp from chainage 7160.6m to chainage 10720m, comprising twin bored underground tunnel between Surat Railway station and south ramp, all cut and cover portion including three underground stations viz. Chowk Bazar, Maskati Hospital and Surat Railway Station with entry/exits & connecting subway by Box pushing method and a portion of NATM and Launching and receiving chambers of TBM for Surat Metro Rail Project.
TBM Diya is 3rd tunnel boring machine that starts tunneling in Surat Metro. Gulermak – SAM JV have deployed two tunnel boring machines S94 and S78 for tunneling from Kapodra westward towards Surat Railway Station under Package UG1/CS2 of Surat Metro Rail Project.
The 22.77 km long Line 1 of Surat Metro Rail project will connect Sarthana to Dream City with 20 metro stations.
