Kanpur Metro completes tunneling on Chunniganj-Nayaganj Underground Section

Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a monumental achievement for the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, the tunnel construction work on the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, stretching approximately 4 kilometers, has been successfully completed. The milestone was marked by the final breakthrough of the 'Tatya' Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM Machine) at Chunniganj station, affirming the seamless progress of the project.

The 'Tatya' TBM Machine, after constructing a 420-meter tunnel on the 'downline' from MacRobertganj, arrived at Chunniganj station at around 3 pm, accompanied by thunderous applause from all involved in the project. The completion of this tunnel construction marks a significant step forward for the Kanpur Metro, underscoring its commitment to efficient and modern transportation solutions for the city.

Excuted by SAM India Buildwell - Gulermak JV, the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section's tunneling work has been a collaborative effort, with both 'Nana' and 'Tatya' TBM machines playing integral roles. These machines have not only facilitated construction but have also ensured minimal disruption to the city's traffic and infrastructure.

Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), expressed his pride in the project's progress, emphasizing the dedication and perseverance of the entire team. Despite challenges such as delays in land acquisition, the UPMRC team has remained steadfast in its commitment to delivering the project on schedule, with commercial services expected to commence by November 2024. ""The engineers of UPMRC are making every effort to start the trial of the metro train up to Kanpur Central Metro Station in June-July 2024," he said.

The successful completion of the Chunniganj-Nayaganj section underscores the transformative impact of the Kanpur Metro on the city's transportation landscape. With 'Nana' and 'Tatya' TBM machines leading the way, the project signifies a leap forward in providing residents with safe, efficient, and sustainable commuting options.

Looking ahead, UPMRC remains focused on advancing construction work across various sections of the Kanpur Metro, including Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra 8). With meticulous planning and execution, coupled with the support of city residents, the project is poised to achieve its objectives of enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth in Kanpur.

The journey of 'Nana' and 'Tatya' TBM machines, spanning multiple breakthroughs and milestones, reflects the dedication and expertise of the UPMRC team. As the project progresses, UPMRC reaffirms its commitment to delivering a world-class metro system that meets the evolving needs of Kanpur's residents and contributes to the city's sustainable development.
