Kinet Railway secures 'A' Credit Rating, Vande Bharat Sleeper Prototype expected by FY2027

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant boost to the Indian Railways’ Vande Bharat Sleeper train project, Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture between Russian rolling stock giant TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), has been awarded a long-term credit rating of ‘IVR A/Stable’ by Infomerics Ratings. The rating highlights Kinet’s robust financial standing and the national importance of its infrastructure development mission.

In an official statement, the company remarked, “Kinet gets an A! A strong credit rating for a bold vision... a recognition of Kinet’s financial strength and the national significance of our mission.

Kinet Railway Solutions is working at full speed to begin production of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains at the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, Maharashtra. The JV is tasked with manufacturing 120 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, amounting to 1,920 coaches, under a $6.5 billion (USD) contract with Indian Railways.

The first prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper is scheduled to be unveiled by FY27, with an internal target of June 2026. According to a senior official quoted by ETNOW.in, the mock-up has already been completed, and preparations are underway to equip the Latur facility with cutting-edge tools and production technology.

“We are currently installing advanced tools and systems at the Latur site to support the manufacturing of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains,” the official stated.

Once operational, Kinet will also handle the maintenance and servicing of the trains at three dedicated depots for a period of 35 years, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.

The upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are poised to redefine overnight rail travel in India. Designed as semi-high-speed trains, these new additions will blend speed, comfort, and luxury, offering a superior experience for long-distance passengers. With enhanced onboard amenities and modern sleeper configurations, the trainsets aim to raise the standard for Indian Railways' premium services.
