Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has officially commenced the land acquisition process for Namma Metro Phase 3, a significant expansion that will introduce two new corridors to the city's metro network. This ambitious project is set to transform urban mobility in Bengaluru, enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion.
Corridor 1 will cover a distance of 32.15 km, stretching from J.P. Nagar Phase 4 to Kempapura, while Corridor 2 will span 12.5 km, connecting Hosahalli to Kadabagere. Both corridors are designed to incorporate several strategic interchange stations, including Peenya, JP Nagar, Mysore Road, and Sumanahalli. Notably, J.P. Nagar Phase 4 will link directly to the Pink Line at Bannerghatta Road, and Hebbal will become a key interchange point connecting the Blue Line and Red Line, further enhancing connectivity across the city.
BMRCL has already acquired 26,811 square meters of land for the first corridor, marking the beginning of the land acquisition process. The project is being carefully planned to minimize disruptions to existing infrastructure while maximizing the benefits to commuters.
With a total estimated cost of ₹15,611 crore, the Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 project will be funded through a combination of loans and diverse revenue streams, including advertising and station naming rights. Once completed, the expanded metro network will serve an estimated 7.85 lakh passengers daily and extend the metro system to a total of 222.2 km, significantly improving urban transportation in Bengaluru.
