Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Major infrastructure firm Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has won two contracts worth Rs 1,485.65 crores this week for Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Scope of Work: Construction of elevated viaduct (approximate length-10 km) including elevated ramp and ten (10) elevated metro stations at Nehru Nagar, Kandanchavadi Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettukuppam, PTC Colony, Okkiyampet, Karapakkam, Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and Shalinganagallur of Corridor 3 of Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project.

Tender notice for this contract package was issued in December 2021 with a 36-month deadline. Technical bids were opened in February 2022 and financial bids were opened on April 12, 2022.
Scope of Work: Supply, installation, testing and commissioning of track works of standard gauge including all associated works in (a) elevated section between CMBT (excluding) and ELCOT (including) in corridor 5 – up to the circular connection to corridor-3 and (b) elevated section between Sholinganallur (excluding) to SICPOT (including) in Corridor 3 and pocket tracks & stabling lines of Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project.

Tender notice for this contract package was issued in October 2021 with an 850-day deadline + 730 days (DLP). Technical bids were opened in February 2022 and financial bids were opened on April 11, 2022.
What's next?
All bids for both packages are now sent for final evaluation by the tender committee of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
Both packages will be financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through a Rs 4,710 crore ODA loan signed with Govt. of India on March 31, 2022.
The under-construction corridor 3 of Chennai Metro stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot 2. The corridor will consist of 48 stations, out of which 29 are underground and 19 are elevated.
