Kochi, India (Metro Rail Today): Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has taken a significant step forward in its Phase 2 expansion by declaring L&T Technology Services Limited as the lowest bidder for the crucial telecommunication system contract. The contract covers the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the complete telecom system for the upcoming Pink Line between JLN Stadium and Infopark.
KMRL had invited bids with a completion deadline of 730 days. Technical bids were opened on 17 November 2025, with three major firms participating in the process. Following detailed technical evaluation on 30 December 2025, financial bids were opened the same day. After financial scrutiny, L&T Technology Services Limited was announced as the lowest bidder with a quoted value of about ₹95.3 crore. Siemens Limited and Alstom Transport India Limited were the other bidders, quoting approximately ₹103.3 crore and ₹116.7 crore respectively.
With this announcement, the project moves closer to securing advanced telecommunication infrastructure, which is vital for train control, passenger information, security surveillance and operational coordination across the network. The award of this key systems contract marks another milestone toward operational readiness of Kochi Metro Phase 2.
Kochi Metro Phase 2 consists of a single corridor popularly known as the Pink Line. The 11.2 km corridor extends the metro from JLN Stadium to Infopark at Kakkanad, covering 11 stations and directly linking the city’s prime IT and residential clusters. Estimated to cost around ₹1,957 crore, the extension is designed to significantly improve accessibility to Infopark and adjoining employment hubs, reduce road congestion and support sustainable urban mobility.
Civil construction across several stretches is progressing with active work on pier caps and U-girder installation. KMRL is targeting commissioning in 2026, subject to timely completion of systems and rolling stock integration. Alongside telecom, other key system packages such as electrical and mechanical contracts are also being finalised, indicating steady overall project momentum.
Kochi Metro Phase 1 has already transformed daily commuting across the city, and Phase 2 is expected to extend those benefits to thousands of professionals working in Kakkanad and Infopark. The corridor is also likely to encourage transit-oriented development, improve last-mile connectivity and reduce dependence on private vehicles.
With L&T Technology Services positioned as the lowest bidder and construction advancing on key stretches, Kochi Metro’s Phase 2 is steadily moving toward its 2026 launch target, strengthening Kochi’s position as one of India’s fast-growing urban transit cities.
