Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Six firms have submitted bids for the electrification system of Nagpur Metro’s 43.8 km Phase 2 project, as Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) opened the technical bids on August 9, 2024. The contract, known as Package TR-03, covers the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of various electrification components, including a 33 kV cable network, auxiliary and traction substations, and the SCADA system.
This project will be funded by a $427 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). Maha-Metro initially invited bids for this package in February 2024, with a completion deadline of 180 weeks (approximately 3.45 years).
The lead bidders for the contract are:
- BNC Power Projects Ltd. (BNCPPL)
- IRCON International Ltd.
- KEC International Ltd.
- Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
- Siemens Ltd.
- Sterling Wilson Pvt. Ltd. (SWPL)
The technical bids will now undergo evaluation, a process that could take a few months. Once completed, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to determine the lowest bidder, who will likely be awarded the contract.
This is the fourth systems-related contract in Phase 2 where technical bids have been opened. Other ongoing evaluations include electrical and mechanical works under Package E&M-02, track works under Package T-01, and another electrification package, TR-02, which involves the installation of flexible overhead equipment (OHE) and posts in the at-grade and elevated sections of the project. The technical evaluation for Package TR-02 is currently underway, with five bids received in June.
