Thane / Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Thane Integral Ring Metro Project has gathered fresh momentum with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA Metro) issuing a ₹223.70 crore civil works tender for the construction of six elevated metro stations, marking a significant step forward in the execution of Phase 1 of Thane Metro.
This tender forms a critical part of the 29-km circular Thane Integral Ring Metro, envisioned as a high-capacity urban transit solution to decongest roads and improve intra-city mobility across Thane’s fast-growing residential and commercial zones.
Under this contract package, MAHA Metro will appoint a single contractor to execute complete civil works for the following six elevated metro stations:
Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar Natyagruha
Manpada
Dongripada
Vijay Nagari
Waghbil
Waterfront
These stations are strategically located along the western arc of Thane city and form an important section of the circular alignment, enabling seamless orbital movement without routing traffic through congested city cores.
Tender Number: T1-023/C-02/2025
Estimated Contract Value: ₹223.70 crore
Scope of Work: Construction of six elevated metro stations
Completion Period: 30 months from date of appointment
Pre-bid Meeting: 22 December 2025
Bid Submission Deadline: 22 January 2026
The scope includes all station-related civil structures, ensuring readiness for subsequent systems installation and commissioning.
The Thane Integral Ring Metro is planned as a 29-kilometre circular mass rapid transit system with 22 stations, looping around the western and central parts of the city. Designed to function as an urban distributor, the project aims to:
Reduce road congestion
Cut travel time within Thane
Improve connectivity between residential hubs, business districts, and transit interchanges
Support long-term, transit-oriented urban development
The stations covered under this tender are part of Phase 1, which marks the initial operational backbone of the project.
In a major parallel development, MAHA Metro issued a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) on 10 December 2025 for the first construction contract of the Thane Metro to the joint venture of Kalpataru Projects International Ltd and H G Infra Engineering Ltd.
Contract Value: ₹1,415 crore
Scope:
Design & construction of elevated metro viaduct
Underground ramp
Balkum Naka section
Depot approach viaduct
3 special spans
Total Length: 20.527 km
This award officially marked the transition of the Thane Integral Ring Metro from planning into full-scale on-ground execution.
With the station tender now floated and viaduct construction already awarded, the Thane Metro project is expected to:
Generate local employment during the construction phase
Accelerate infrastructure-led growth in Thane
Ease pressure on arterial roads such as Ghodbunder Road
Strengthen public transport integration in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)
Commenting on the project’s progress, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said: “The Thane Integral Ring Metro is a strategically important urban mobility project for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The release of station construction tenders alongside major viaduct contracts reflects MAHA Metro’s execution-driven approach. Once operational, this circular metro will fundamentally improve intra-city connectivity and support sustainable urban expansion in Thane.”
With major civil contracts now underway and station construction tenders open, the Thane Integral Ring Metro has entered a decisive implementation phase. MAHA Metro has urged interested bidders to adhere strictly to timelines, attend the pre-bid meeting, and submit bids by January 2026.
The coming months are expected to witness rapid progress as groundwork, viaduct construction, and station development advance in parallel—bringing Thane closer to its first dedicated metro network.
