New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant boost to India’s railway automation ecosystem, MIC Electronics Limited has secured its first-ever order from Indian Railways for its indigenously developed Microprocessor Controller for Roof Mounted AC Package Units (RMPU). The breakthrough order—awarded by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR)—follows the successful approval of the controller by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO).
The system will be installed in LHB passenger coaches, marking a major milestone in MIC Electronics’ renewed push into high-value, next-generation railway electronics.
Designed, developed and manufactured at MIC’s advanced Hyderabad facility, the RMPU controller fully complies with RDSO/PE/SPEC/AC/0139-2009 (Rev.1). The system incorporates:
Precise digital climate control
Adaptive compressor cycling
Advanced fault diagnostics
Multiple safety protections
Extreme weather performance
Firmware-driven upgrades and modular architecture
These features are designed to improve passenger comfort, reduce downtime, and enhance long-term reliability and maintainability across Indian Railways’ AC coach fleet.
The order is expected to accelerate the broader adoption of MIC’s automation solutions across multiple railway zones, particularly as Indian Railways upgrades to modern LHB and double-decker AC coaches nationwide.
According to the Letter of Acceptance issued by NFR:
Deliveries must be completed within 45 days,
Followed by mandatory inspections,
Workshop-level integration, and
Functional testing on operational rakes.
The system will be supplied with a 30-month warranty, including extensive field support and technical assistance throughout the deployment phase.
Commenting on the achievement, Rakshit Mathur, CEO, MIC Electronics Limited, said: “This order reinforces the trust placed in MIC’s engineering capabilities. We assure Indian Railways of consistent product performance, robust after-sales support, and dedicated collaboration throughout the rollout. Our focus remains on solutions that reduce lifecycle costs and enhance the reliability of the LHB fleet.”
Offering an industry perspective, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said: “Indigenous control electronics like MIC’s RMPU controller play a vital role in India’s journey toward self-reliant, smart railway systems. As Indian Railways accelerates fleet digitalisation, such Make in India technologies are essential for enhancing passenger comfort and system reliability.”
MIC Electronics has previously supplied key systems to Indian Railways including:
Passenger Information Systems
Emergency Lighting Units
SMPS power systems
LED display technologies
The introduction of the new RMPU controller positions the company to significantly expand its presence as the demand for smart coach automation, IoT-enabled monitoring, and digital maintenance solutions continues to rise.
